Summer is here.
Holidays, long evenings, spontaneous adventures — summer has a way of filling up fast. The good news? Kaleido is built for exactly this.
Whether you’re packing for a flight, gearing up for a swim, or just spending more time in the sun, your pump is designed to keep up. A few smart tips to keep in mind so you can enjoy your summer, your way. Here’s what to know.
Travelling? Prep before you go.
The best travel experiences start at home. Before you leave:
- Ask your doctor for a letter confirming your pump and supplies are for medical use. It saves time at security. Please note that you are not allowed to go through security with the pump on your body, therefore, request a manual security check.
- Pack a full back-up kit: Top-up Kit items, insulin pen, pen needles or syringes, alcohol wipes, hypo treatment, glucose monitoring equipment, and contact details for Kaleido Care’s as well are your healthcare professional.
- Travelling through time zones? Keep ‘Automatic time zone’ activated and check if it’s activated upon arrival.

Active days, worry-free.
Kaleido is waterproof to 1.5 m for up to one hour; so, the pool, the sea, and the shower are all fine. A couple of things to keep in mind:
- Avoid hot tubs and hot showers. Above 37°C, your insulin can be affected.
- Heading to high altitudes? Kaleido operates within an air pressure range of 0.7–1.06 bar, typically up to 2,500 m. Extreme altitude or atmospheric conditions may affect performance — always have another means of insulin therapy with you.
- For contact sports, remove your pump to protect the infusion site. When it’s off, close the protective cover and check your glucose levels more often.
- Dropped your pump? Check for cracks or signs of damage— any damage can compromise the waterproofing.

When the temperature climbs. Here’s how to handle it.
Your Kaleido operates between 5°C and 37°C. Hot cars, direct sunlight, and extreme conditions are all worth avoiding. A few more summer-specific habits:
- Applied sunscreen, insect repellent, or lotion? Wash your hands before touching your pump — these products can damage the plastics and weaken the patch adhesive. If any gets on the device, wipe it off straight away. When applying your infusion set or patch, make sure the skin is clean, dry and free from any product. Use an alcohol wipe to gently clean the area and allow it to dry naturally before applying.
- Check your infusion site more often in warm weather. Sweat affects adhesion. Rotate your site at every change, and if it looks red, swollen, or sore, move to a fresh spot.
- Store insulin according to your manufacturer’s temperature guidance, and check expiry dates before you travel.
