Announcing your favourite sport or physical activity is now even easier using Kaleido & DBLG1. It’s so important to us to offer Kaleidoers a pump and algorithm that work together for YOU, with a system as personalized as possible. This update will support you in performing various physical activities. With Diabeloop’s algorithm, you can select your specific sport or exercise in the activity menu to make the management even more adapted to you. It will set a higher target glucose level for the specific activity you select and adapt the insulin delivery towards the target value.
The update will be rolled out over a timeframe of 6 weeks, and start from December the 10th.
Choose your sport
Whether you cycle, play football or join your friends for a golf practice, you can tell the system using “Physical Activity”. The algorithm then takes your specific activity into account, providing a higher target value and recommending earlier rescue carbohydrates trying to prevent your glucose doesn’t drop too low. This covers you not just during the exercise, but up to 16 hours after you finish, considering how long and what intensity you worked out at.
Don’t see your favourite sport or exercise listed?
Nothing to worry about, choose between aerobic activity, anaerobic activity or a mix of both to tailor your insulin delivery. The algorithm uses the same approach when you select a specific sport. It has categorized each sport or exercise as aerobic, anaerobic or a mix of both and sets an offset to reflect that.
Aerobic activity, for example golf, walking or swimming
An aerobic activity is a physical activity in which your heart rate and breathing increase over an extended period. Aerobic training primarily improves your cardiovascular endurance, while anaerobic training mainly increases our muscle strength.
The aim is to improve your heart and lung function by transporting oxygen through your body more efficiently.
Examples of aerobic activity include running, cycling, swimming or walking at a brisk pace; anything that classifies an activity in which you maintain a consistent pace so that your muscles get enough oxygen for a longer period.
Anaerobic activity for example judo, weightlifting or baseball
An anaerobic activity is short and intense, during which your body produces energy without using oxygen. Instead, your body draws energy from a stored source, such as glucose. These activities mainly improve strength, speed and muscle mass. You might call them short but powerful. Examples include gymnastic weightlifting or handball.
Mixed activity
A mix of both is also possible, and very common! For example, sports like hockey, tennis or volleyball fall between aerobic and anaerobic.
